Lighthouse Academy
LEADERSHIP
The members of Lighthouse Academy are served and represented by three elected officers and four appointed officers. Officers are elected by a simple majority at our end-of-the-year parent meeting. The three elected officers - Chairman, Co-Chairman, and Parent Representative - comprise the Executive Board. The General Board (featured below) consists of all seven officers.
2022-2023 Executive Board
Chair
Shannon Moss
Joining our commonwealth in 2019, just before COVID, Shannon was shortly thereafter elected to pilot our school through the rough waters of the pandemic. She has gracefully served two very selfless terms as our fearless leader and has powerfully grown our homeschool community in the process. When she is not captaining a large and thriving commonwealth, Shannon is mentoring our Family Foundations class, growing her personal health coaching business, managing a farm, raising three beautiful daughters, and dating her wonderful, supportive husband.
Co-Chair
Liz Agle
Liz became a member of our commonwealth in 2018. As a mother of six boys, she is grateful for the leadership education that has given her boys character, confidence, and skills. Liz brings with her a character of grit and a powerful scheduling and time-management skillset. When she is not fulfilling her co-chair duties, Liz is homeschooling her boys, seeking a sunny pool deck, gardening, watching cheesy romance movies on the Hallmark channel, walking, eating Southeast Asian cuisine with her husband, or reading good books. Per our commonwealth constitution, Liz will become our Chair for the 2023-24 school year.
Parent Representative
Silvina Niccum
Though a relative newcomer to our commonwealth, Silvina has been implementing leadership education on her own for 15 years. Her can-do attitude has been incredibly inspiring. From learning the Lighthouse Academy lingo, to mentoring our Family Foundations class, to creating surveys for families to share ideas, Silvina's talents have been key in helping the families in our commonwealth understand the language and operation of a leadership education. When she is not advocating for homeschool families, Silvina is writing YA fiction novels (she's a published author!), teaching early morning seminary (scripture study for Latter-day Saint youth), and being a wizard in the kitchen with the fruits of her husband's agricultural labors.
2022-2023 General Board
Principal Mentor
DaNell Friebe
DaNell is the only remaining member of the three original Founders of our commonwealth. She has been expertly managing the Vision and Mission at Lighthouse Academy since 2013. Besides being our Principal Mentor, she currently mentors our Classical Acting class. When DaNell is not recruiting mentors, organizing class lists, or mentoring a project, she loves to chase dolphin pods in their family boat, walk on the beach, travel, read, teach, and spend time with her family.
Treasurer
Mary-Anne Bedke
The Bedke family joined Lighthouse Academy in 2020 and Mary-Anne jumped right in that same year to brilliantly balance our books and bring us into the 21st Century with Google Sheets. When she's not disbursing reimbursements, creating class budgets, or totaling expenses, Mary-Anne enjoys long walks, large cups of Pero, Cadbury Eggs, strength training, family movie nights, date night, and nap time.
Public Relations/Facilities Manager
Sarah Springston
Sarah has been a member of our commonwealth since 2020. She skillfully executes our public relations and website management. When she is not mentoring or promoting community events, she loves being at home, baking ketogenic treats (or cooking healthy meals), reading about health and wellness, playing board games with family members, doing puzzles, exercising, hanging out with her husband, and listening to inspiring sermons.
Secretary
Gene Alexander
Gene has been a member of Lighthouse Academy since 2020. He deftly navigates the world of Google Sheets, Forms, Docs, Calendars, and...Memes. He also mentors our Pyramid Project. Retired from academics and technology startups, when Gene is not creating spreadsheets, cracking us up with memes, or launching rockets, he writes fiction (another published author!), volunteers with several local organizations, and homeschools his daughter, Elena, with his wife, Victoria.
